Tribal Circuits

TRIBAL CIRCUITS (DJG Afro-Cosmic mix # 2)

I have had this combination of records together for a few years yet haven't taken the opportunity to record them until Tommyboy offered his assistance. If it weren't for him, they would still be sitting next to the ones from the last post! It is no coincidence that this mix is a continuation of the vibe from my guest mix on "TechnoSports International" internet radio show in 2010. (link found below in the last post on this blog). Yes, it has been that long since I have recorded a mix AND posted on this blog.....

---->The emphasis here is mid-tempo African (+influenced) tracks with drum machines/electronics/dub effects. I have spiced the mix with various live percussion tracks and broken up the pulse with acoustic drumming coupled with cosmic synth sounds ((interludes)). The attempt is to call to mind the duality of natural indigenous live music vs. the electronic medium of modern sounds (even though the age of the recordings is from mid 80's) ; My take on literally & semantically emulating the much favored underground term "Afro-Cosmic". (I can't deny this was influenced by the spirit of DJ Beppe Loda's classic mix tapes from the legendary Typhoon club.)

With that being said, after playing the mix through a few times, I chose to not make it so streamlined and went with some impulsive intuitions....So there are a few dreamy diversions in dynamics then the mix eventually floats away...away from the microchips dancing in the circuitboard jungles and savannas of the Motherland...into a melodic nocturnal lullaby...

TOMMYBOY and DJG in the OC

Looks like Tradewinds Social Club in Oak Cliff is turning out to be the best new small venue in town. Any given weekend you can find DJs Mark Ridlin, Tommyboy, and Prince William to name a few... which in my personal opinion are some of the best in the metroplex. So, I am pleased to announce that on Friday, February 26th, you will see DJG and TOMMYBOY digging deep to bring you a most sincere sensory experience. This is a free show, and it will get started promptly at 10pm.

Thursday, January 21st @ Rubber Gloves will be an all hardware live PA electronic music event with music by Corporate Park, Dos Jackulites (from Chicago), Betdat, Lars Larsen, and DJG. Video projections by Lars Larsen and Jonah Lange. This show starts at 9pm and there will be NO COVER. WOO!

What next?

My Denton residencies are officially over, but I have a few things in the works and a few guest spots coming up. First off, Sir Anthony is taking over my Sunday night weekly at Hailey's club and I will be guesting with him through the month of January. He is calling it Sound Playground, and the musical format will be very similar to what ForYourPleasure was with some added psychedelic and international ditties.

This Friday at Fallout Lounge I will be playing the Astro Funk Vinyl party with DJ sets by Wanz Dover, Gabriel, and me. Should be a solid night of funk, soul, garage, punk, and basically anything funky.

Finally, on Saturday February 6th I will be at Fallout Lounge for Away From the Numbers presents: MADCHESTER! It will be a night of music from Manchester and Hacienda classics. Telegram Sam, Gabriel, and guest DJG.

Working on booking some shows and getting a lot of different things going, so you will hear from me more in the future!
